Earlier this year in August, the Minister of State for Power and Renewable Free energy, Piyush Goyal, revealed that the fundamental government was planning an aggressive push towards electric vehicles (EVs) with the aim to replace all gasoline powered vehicles in the country past 2030. In a recent interaction with PTI, Folger is quoted equally saying the government's aggressive plan to go all-electric nationwide by the year 2030 is rushed and unfeasible. "By 2040, the whole world will be driving home hydrogen cars. To me the whole programme to go electric nationwide looks like a rushed idea.", Folger added. He also stated that due to the rushed plan, the government would foreclose options for ameliorate technologies that could be released in the virtually hereafter. He further stated:

"Ideally, regulators and policymakers should exist totally aligned with what'due south happening on the technology front because 5-10 years is a short period in the auto landscape. The least policymakers can do is to accept the car industry into conviction."

According to Folger, two decades downwardly the line the whole world will be "driving hydrogen cars and not electric cars", every bit the engineering used past plug-in hybrids is more affordable than electric cars which require greater investments for a charging infrastructure. Since a complete switch to EVs volition greatly increment the electricity need, the government's move will exist counter productive as the country largely relies on thermal ability plants that still crusade pollution.

Calling the nationwide electrification of the car manufacture commercially and technologically non-viable, Folger urged the government to support the industry in terms of policies, taxation and infrastructure development in cities.
